Why these guides come first
2026 is a threshold year, and unusually so. Three slow planets changed sign inside four months: Neptune left Pisces for Aries on 26 January after fourteen years, Saturn followed on 14 February, and Uranus left Taurus for Gemini on 26 April after seven. Sign changes at that level do not describe a mood; they reset the background against which everything else is read, and the last time all three moved this close together was decades ago.
The headline event was the total solar eclipse in Leo on 12 August, with the path of totality crossing Iceland and Spain — the first total solar eclipse visible from mainland Europe since 1999. Jupiter changed sign a few weeks before it, leaving Cancer on 30 June for Leo, which is why the second half of the year reads so differently from the first.
What is still ahead as this is written: Venus retrograde from 3 October to 14 November, the only one of the year and the first since 2025, with Mercury retrograde overlapping it from 24 October. That double retrograde makes late autumn the most carefully-worded stretch of the year.
Questions about 2026
What was the biggest astrological event of 2026?
The total solar eclipse in Leo on 12 August, which was also visible as a total eclipse from Iceland and northern Spain. Astrologically, the three outer-planet sign changes earlier in the year — Neptune and Saturn into Aries, Uranus into Gemini — matter more in the long run, but they work slowly and an eclipse does not.
Is there a Mars retrograde in 2026?
No. Mars moves direct through the whole year, which happens roughly half the time since Mars only retrogrades every two years or so. The next Mars retrograde begins on 10 January 2027.
When is Venus retrograde in 2026?
3 October to 14 November, from 8° Scorpio back to 22° Libra. Venus retrogrades only about every eighteen months, so this is the notable personal-planet event of the year, and Mercury retrogrades across the same period from 24 October to 13 November.
What Chinese year is 2026?
The Fire Horse, from 17 February 2026 to 5 February 2027. Fire Horse years come round once every sixty years; the previous one was 1966.
