Full Moon Calendar 2027: Every Date, Every Sign

2027 delivers a full moon roughly every 29.5 days — twelve in total, three of them lunar eclipses — plus thirteen new moons, one of which is the total solar eclipse of August 2. This page lists every lunation of the year with its date and zodiac sign, all computed from the ephemeris at UTC, and explains how astrologers read each one. For the day-by-day version of the same sky, see the 2027 astrology calendar.

All dates are UTC; depending on your time zone, a lunation near midnight may fall on the neighbouring calendar day locally.

The Oddity: Two Full Moons in Scorpio

April 20 and May 20 both bring a full moon in Scorpio — the first at the very start of the sign, the second at its very end. When a sign hosts two consecutive full moons, astrologers read it as the same conversation held twice: whatever the April moon surfaces around intimacy, shared finances or things kept private gets a second, more conclusive pass a month later. If April's full moon opens a difficult subject, May's tends to close it.

The Eclipse Moons

Three of the year's full moons are penumbral lunar eclipses — the subtle kind, where the Moon passes only through Earth's outer shadow. Visually they are underwhelming; astrologically they still count as eclipses, which means their themes are read as louder and longer-lasting than an ordinary full moon's:

  • February 20 in Virgo — paired with the annular solar eclipse in Aquarius two weeks earlier, closing the winter eclipse season on the axis of daily work, health and service.
  • July 18 in Capricorn — the opener of the summer's rare three-eclipse season, touching career, authority and long-term structures.
  • August 17 in Aquarius — the season's closer, two weeks after the total solar eclipse in Leo, finishing whatever that eclipse started in the territory of groups, friendships and independence.

The full story of all five 2027 eclipses is in the 2027 eclipse guide.

All New Moons of 2027

Date Sign
January 7 Capricorn
February 6 Aquarius — annular solar eclipse
March 8 Pisces
April 6 Aries
May 6 Taurus
June 4 Gemini
July 4 Cancer
August 2 Leo — total solar eclipse
August 31 Virgo
September 30 Libra
October 29 Scorpio

Note the bookends: the year opens with a Capricorn new moon on January 7 and closes with another on December 27 — 2027 starts and ends on the same note of planning and consolidation, which suits a Universal 2 year (see the 2027 numerology guide).

How to Use the Lunar Cycle

The working rule is simple. New moons begin; full moons conclude. A new moon is the traditional window for setting intentions, starting projects and planting anything you want to grow over the following two weeks. A full moon is the culmination — results arrive, feelings peak, and whatever has been building becomes visible. The days just after a full moon suit finishing, releasing and clearing out.

The sign refines the timing. A full moon illuminates the affairs of its sign: the Taurus full moon of November 14 brings money and material security to a head; the Aries full moon of October 15 does the same for personal projects and independence. If you know your own chart, the house the lunation falls in localises it further — cast one free with the birth chart calculator.

One caution that applies all year: three Mercury retrograde windows (February 9 – March 3, June 10 – July 4, October 7–28) overlap several lunations. A new moon inside a Mercury retrograde — like June's Gemini new moon or October's Scorpio one — is traditionally better for resuming an old project than launching a brand-new one. Dates and details are in the Mercury retrograde guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many full moons are there in 2027? Twelve full moons and thirteen new moons. There is no calendar-month blue moon in 2027, though Scorpio unusually hosts two full moons in a row (April 20 and May 20).

Which 2027 full moon is the most important? Astrologically, the three eclipse moons — February 20, July 18 and August 17 — carry the most weight, with the August 17 Aquarius eclipse amplified by the total solar eclipse that precedes it.

What time zone are these dates in? UTC, straight from the ephemeris. In time zones far from Greenwich, lunations that occur near midnight UTC can land a day earlier or later on your local calendar.

Where can I see what else happens in 2027? The 2027 astrology hub collects the year's eclipses, retrogrades and numerology; the 2027 horoscope translates it sign by sign.
