What "void of course" means

After the Moon makes its last major aspect to a planet in the sign it is currently crossing, and before it enters the next sign, it is void of course. Nothing further will perfect; the Moon is coasting to the boundary.

Traditional electional astrology treats that window as a poor time to begin anything you want to last, on the principle that the Moon carries the light between planets and, with no further aspect to make, has nothing to carry. The old formulation is blunt: nothing will come of it.

How long they last

Voids happen most days and vary enormously — from a couple of minutes to more than a day, depending on where the Moon's last aspect falls in the sign. A void that starts at 3° of a sign runs for almost two days; one that starts at 28° is over before you notice.

The list above gives start and end times computed from the ephemeris rather than estimated, because an approximate void time is worse than none.

What the tradition says to avoid

The classical advice is specifically about initiating, not about ordinary activity:

• Signing, launching, buying, proposing — begin these outside a void if you can.
• Meetings where a decision is expected tend to produce no decision.
• Purchases made in a void are traditionally said to disappoint or be returned.

What voids are considered fine — even good — for: routine work, rest, tidying, research, appointments that were already scheduled, and anything you specifically do not want to have consequences.

A more moderate reading

Modern practice generally softens this. The observed pattern most astrologers describe is less "nothing happens" and more "things drift" — meetings run long without conclusions, plans fail to firm up, the day resists being pushed. Treated that way, a void is a scheduling hint rather than a prohibition, and the practical response is to put the low-stakes work there.

Using this without rearranging your life

Almost nobody can avoid every void, and the ones that last twelve hours make trying absurd. The usable version is narrow: if you have a genuinely important beginning and any flexibility about when, check this list and move it half a day. That is a small cost for a timing rule that has been in continuous use for roughly two thousand years, whatever you conclude about why.
